As part of the nationwide celebration of drug abuse prevention, education and awareness, The Army Center for Substance Abuse Programs (ACSAP) participated in the annual DoD-wide National Red Ribbon Week activities at the Pentagon during the week of 18 October 1999. ACSAP profiled the Risk Reduction Program with an exhibit display and a multimedia presentation. Events included a display of service programs, information and materials sharing and dissemination, and presentation of the Ninth Annual Military Services Community Drug Awareness Awards by Mr. Rudy deLeon, Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness.

FORT BRAGG's
Risk Reduction Program includes extensive on-base activities as well as outreach to the community. Awareness activities and prevention programs combine effectively.
    FORT RILEY's Soldier Risk Reduction Program reinforces Army values while identifying high-risk behaviors. Strong command and leadership have led to decreases in risk factors.     FORT SILL's Army Risk Reduction Program includes an annual Alcohol and Drug Awareness Week. Widespread public awareness activities heighten support for their year-round efforts. 
     
    FORT CAMPBELL's Alcohol & Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program is a recognized leader. A focus on readiness and training has led to one of the lowest drug use rates in the Army

Risk Reduction Benefits


  • The Risk Reduction Program is a Commander's Program that is visually presented as a target that depicts 14 high risk behaviors.
  • High risk behavior rates are displayed on a shot group. Rates on the red ring indicate the problem areas.
  • From this the commander can decide which action to take to solve the behavioral problems.
  • The program focuses on effective use of installation resources and coordinated effort between agencies utilizing the Installation Prevention Team to implement effective interventions.
